I use them with a Powerblock Pro set and they work so perfectly it’s like they’re made for it specifically. Allows you to get those 12.5 lb / 22.5 / 32.5 / etc increments that the set can’t do. Simple to add / remove. So quick that it doesn’t disrupt the workout at all. Just the right amount of magnetism that they’re easy to remove, but you don’t worry about them falling off, either.
And they work great with the Powerblock straight bar if you have that, too. Just add them right to the flat part of the handles where the weight chart is displayed. And again, this allows you to fill the holes of 45 lb / 65 / 85 that the bar can’t do on its own.
Perfection!

Perfection!
They are quite strong on iron dumbbells and don’t get in the way.
Just make sure you buy two sets for a total of four so you can get the 2.5 increment on each dumbbell you hold. Unlike me who didn’t do the math right and realized to late that one on each 15lb dumbbell didn’t actually make 17.5 lbs. Had I done the math right I would have probably purchased something else that gave me what I needed in a lesser expensive purchase. That being said, I’ve moved to adjustable dumbbells that do adjust in 2.5 lb increments, and I can see these 1.25lb plates still be useful on those.
I would recommend them to anyone
These are easy to use and swap between dumbbells. The magnets are very strong and secure on my cast iron dumbbells. They do not make the dumbbells feel awkward or bulky in my opinion.

These are easy to use and swap between dumbbells. The magnets are very strong and secure on my cast iron dumbbells. They do not make the dumbbells feel awkward or bulky in my opinion.
These are perfect for the in-between weights, for movements that use lighter dumbbells… where moving up from 10-15lbs is a 50% increase. With 2 sets of these magnets, we’ve added 7.5, 12.5, 17.5, 22.5, etc. to our weight rack without any increase in space needed. This is where the somewhat high cost is forgotten.
The magnets do stick to *some* rubber coated dumbbells (they don’t claim to be able to), they stick to the bottom of our kettlebells, they easily stick to the face of Olympic plates, and they stick nicely to the ends of my adjustable dumbbell set (Nuobell 5-80lb adjustable dumbbells).
These are pricey, but they are so convenient that you will not regret the purchase. For bi-lateral dumbbell exercises you will need (at a minimum) 2 pairs of the 1-1/4 lb plates, and 2 pairs of the 5/8 lb plates. This will enable you to go up in 1-1/4 lb increments. And if you want to go up in 5/8-lb increments, you will actually need 3 pairs of the 5/8-lb PlateMates. If you have two pairs of 1.25-lb PlateMates and a two pairs of 5/8-lb PlateMates you have the ability to do bi-lateral work starting from 5/8 lb up to 3-3/4 lb using only the plate-mates. Which means you don't need to purchase 3-lb, 8-lb, or 12-lb dumbbells.
These will not work with rubber-covered dumbbells. Good Luck and Happy Lifting!
