As a PT I specialize in strength training older women. With these plates I can enable them to set new "World Records" (what I love to tell them) each time we train because they always progress, even if just a little : ) Their confidence and enthusiasm goes through the roof, which is good for them and good for my business too!
These plates are solid, slide on the bar smoothly and are easily stashed in a gym bag.
BONUS: Make great coasters too!
1lb pair - (453g)(453g)
3/4lb pair - (340g)(342g)
1/2lb pair - (227g)(227g)
1/4lb pair - (110g)(113)
Seeing as there is only a max difference of 3 grams which is equivalent to 0.007lbs, I would say these weight deviations will do little to hinder your goals.
After a couple years of use, I can say that these plates do the job well. I've worked out in three different gyms over that time, and if your gym uses standard Olympic barbells like mine does, these are machined properly to fit. I haven't had trouble with these fitting on normal barbells that I've used.
With regards to whether or not they actually weigh what they say on the face, I used a kitchen scale that weighs in ounces and each one was within a quarter of an ounce of what they said on the face. They seem to be pretty well crafted to be the weight that they claim to be.
The only minor complaints that I can level on these plates is that the paint will begin to chip almost immediately. I don't really consider this a big deal as I'm not really interested in them looking pretty, but I have found some paint chips in my gym bag from time to time. This may bother some people. Also, there is no carrying case with these, so you do have to come up with a solution to keep them organized. Five total pounds of weight will require something reasonably durable too.
Aside from that, these do the job of helping you be more precise with your weight lifting progression perfectly well. Near the end of your basic progression, when you are trying to improve your shoulder press lifts and find five pound increments to be too heavy, you'll be glad you can put a couple pounds at a time on the bar. If you are a more advanced lifter and on a percentage of lifting max based program, these weights will also give you more precision if you want it as well. I've used these to get more precise with a 5/3/1 progression as I've moved on from Starting Strength and they have continued to serve well. I've gotten quite a bit of mileage out of these to justify the price.
If you are serious about strength progression and want to get a little more out of your program, you can't go wrong here.
Recommended.
They have seen consistent use in my outdoor (non-climate controlled) garage gym and have fared well. The paint has chipped on the plates but who wants pretty gym equipment? There is no rust, they slide on/off easy and weigh the same as they did when purchased — What else could I ask for in a set of weights?
I initially bought them for StrongLifts but they continue to see use in all of my progression programs. Great purchase!
I'll just echo some points that others have already said. The paint on these plates feel a bit soft and rubs off rather easily. The paint almost feel a bit tacky. They left colored streaks on my bar the first time I test fitted them. I feel I could have done a better job myself with some Rustoleum.
Also, one of the blue 1/2 pound plates didn't want to fit on my Pendlay bar. I had to knock off a chunk of paint and then it went on. A couple other plates were tight too. Tight enough that they would be frustrating to change between sets. I'll probably be sanding or grinding down the insides.
Otherwise, I really like these but for over $10 per pound the fit and finish should be much better.
*** Update 2/9/14 ***
After using these plates for a bit some of the initial issues I had seem to be better. The plates now slide on and off the bar much easier. Also, the paint and finish seem to be holding better than they were initially. I wonder if they make these plates to order and the paint just needed more time to cure?

When I measured them in my kitchen scale the pairs were exactly the same weight.
