    About Phoenix Health & Fitness
Established in 1998 as a wholesale distributor of fitness equipment, Phoenix Health & Fitness offers a complete line of high-quality exercise equipment to the in-home and light commercial markets. Working with a state-of-the-art computer system, the company can offer "just in time" delivery and other critical services while living up to its standards of reliability, consistency, honesty, and urgency. Phoenix Health & Fitness develops many of its new concepts and products in conjunction with its sister company, Reflex Design, and enjoys a reputation for delivering quality products in a timely manner.

    About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Very good cost to performance ratio
4 Stars
Very good cost to performance ratio
The bike shipped quickly. The shipping box was covered in saran wrap (likely to keep water out and make the cardboard weak - the box is pretty heavy for 1 person to move around). Unpacking the bike needs to be done carefully, as the parts are sort of intermixed in the box and do not lift out easily - in trying to pull out the heaviest item, I dropped it and cracked off a piece of the front cover. Pulling things out from a box laid sideways would have probably been more effective.Bike setup is easy enough, just follow the directions. In all, it took me about an hour. There is a piece of black plastic used to make adjusting the leg length easier that is a bit difficult to get exactly in place - I hammered that part down to get it to sit right. The bike itself is very nice. When they say silent, they mean it. You can peddle and watch TV (or whatever) without having to turn up the volume or annoying other people nearby like a treadmill would. The adjustable resistance will do for anyone looking for a basic workout. The reader works well enough, although I'm a little doubtful about how they count calories burned. At 5'6", the bike leg length was perfect, but it might be a bit of a reach for someone shorter than me. Once assembled, it drags around easy enough for me to be able to move it between my tv and my computer. If you are going to try and use a laptop while peddling, i recommend getting one of those adjustable 'laptop stands/desks' so your neck doesn't have to stay craned in one direction for the duration of your peddling.4/5 stars because I was annoyed the front panel cracked open when I dropped it due to bad packaging technique. The bike maker could have also figured out a way to make the peddling motion capture energy to power the display instead of requiring batteries. No other complaints. Great for people who don't want the knee/foot pressure of running, want to stay indoors, want a recumbent bike for multi-tasking, or have the requirement to not be plugged into an outlet to operate.

Is this the highest quality exercise bike you're going to find on Amazon? Heavens no. Is it the best one you're going to find for under $200? Heck yes!
Assembly was time-consuming, although in my case it was complicated by the fact that my 2-year-old was "helping." Took about an hour to get everything together. Other customers have noticed that the bikes come damaged, and have blamed it on FedEx or UPS; I think the problem is actually inadequate packaging. A slightly larger box and a few foam inserts would do the job. My bike came with a small piece of the plastic cracked off, but it has no effect on the operation of the bike so I'm not concerned. Also one of the plugs that go in the end of the handlebars is damaged, and won't stay in.
One customer complained that, despite his being in only "decent" shape, the bike doesn't offer enough resistance; he either is in FAR better shape than he thinks, or has a damaged bike. My bike offers enough resistance at level 2 (of 8) to get my heart going nicely, and I can simulate hills by clicking to level 3 or 4 and really get puffing. Obviously a high-end professional model would offer programs to automatically adjust the resistance, but those bikes cost $800. This bike costs less than a quarter of that.
The seat padding is, as other customers have noted, just a tad thin; after an hour of riding, I have to spend a few minutes walking around, trying to get blood flowing back to my hindquarters. I may get some kind of foam to stick on the seat and see if that helps.
The bike is indeed quiet, although my particular model has developed a disconcerting noise at certain points of the pedal revolution. There's no grinding or change in resistance; just an odd hushed hum that happens for a split second. Something may be brushing against the internal components. That doesn't really speak well of the fit and assembly of the product, but in case you haven't been paying attention: this bike cost me $170, about $500 cheaper than any high-reviewed alternative.
Final analysis:
Cons: Shoddy workmanship and packaging, which have no bearing on operation; a less than ideal seat.
Pros: Quiet, smooth, good resistance, and above all, CHEAP AS FREE.

Don't let the poor packaging steer you away from this bike. I will ding the product for packaging but positives first:
Resistance on the bike is very adequate. Challenging for me. The seat isn't the best but a sofa pillow behind my butt makes it very comfy. Bam! The computer is simple and not sexy but does its job keeping cumulative data as you get on and off the bike all day long. Assembly was fun and may have taken me 2 hours solo. You'll need a wrench or even a drill-powered socket will make quick work of some of the nut turning. I needed a helper to thread the bar that connects the front of the unit with the rear of the unit. No biggie. The black plastic sleeve does live inside the front end of the bar. Provides support for the spring loaded adjuster. It is as quiet as all say. You can't hear it all while the tv is on (won't bother any tv viewers) but a dead quiet house and you will know somebody is on the bike. Agreed, a very acceptable level of hum. The profile of the entire unit is low and the appearance is very nicely designed. It is super easy to grab an end and drag across the room. No issue at all with weight or ability to transport. Read the manual. It taught me about the middle bar supporter wheel that screws in and why its there.

Negatives: The product box gets wrapped in cellophane, label slapped on, and shipped off. It really should be placed in an outer carton with styrofoam snug protection. My bike had a large crack on one cowl and outright chipped off damage to the front end. it was unsightly so I removed the pedals, and cowls, and got busy with super-glue and duct tape on the inside. Looks ok now. Took a while to repair though. Also, the inside wheel can rub against the inside cowl. I loosened a couple of the cowl screws and gently pushed the whole plastic unit over so that the wheel didn't rub anymore. I suspect that the size of the product box (relatively compact) coupled with the weight (64 lbs) must piss off some handlers in the delivery chain of this product. It was handled at least 8 times from my Amazon purchase to delivery to my house and who know how many times before that from China, to a container ship, etc etc, to Calif. The seller or manufacturer should look into who is damaging their products. Again, perhaps the protective carton re-packaging might help this problem.

Great product! Very satisfied! I love exercising on the Phoenix as does every family member. Would buy again or as a gift.

Had I known when I ordered...that so many parts (including the seat) would be molded so or bent crooked, I'd have never order this product. It had nothing to do with shipping, as it was padded and packed well. The bars inside are not equal in length and bent at different lengths - this had to have been done in the factory and no one inspected it. The thing that sucks is that the seat is the last thing you put on after you've built the whole bike. Time consuming, not easy to build (especially with the tools they send). I had a hard enough time getting to the nuts and bolts with the makeshift screwdriver and wrench they include. When I finally got to the seat, I could tell something was really off. It sits at nearly a 35 degree sideways angle down to the right, so your entire spine would be sacrificed. It was so heavy and cumbersome that I was not about to take the whole thing apart to ship it back. Now I have to go to a bike shop and pay an extra cost to have the seat (hopefully) repaired. How could someone have overlooked this blatant error? NOT pleased.

--Not too hard to assemble if you follow the instructions.
--VERY quiet, nice for watching TV while riding.
--Eight settings that provide enough of a range for most people.
--Would appreciate a more padded seat.
--Unfortunately this bike does not work well for a short person. Even my 5foot-7inch wife has to put a pillow behind her to be comfortable. We added another setting by drilling another hole, but that shouldn't be necessary.

The exercise bike is excellent in design and seems to be of good workmanship, but unfortunately has already developed a noise when peddled that sounds like "something slipping" for lack of a better term. I have been to busy to call the company and ask about this. Dr. Sam Fadala over and out....
